First sleep over

The temperature was 97 degrees in Seattle when we headed out of town. I threw cotton sheets and, as an afterthought, a fleece coverlet. The evening was fantastic. The countryside quiets down bit by bit, with finally only a dog barking across the valley. We went to bed with all the windows open. Very soon, I was up shutting windows. And then I was up again trying to find something else to cover us with. I found an old bath towel. We huddled under the thin covers until morning having learned that trees don't retain the heat like cement buildings and streets do.
The contractor arrived early in the am to look over the barn/shed that needs to be torn down before August 5. A surprise from the insurance company.
And the electrical panel got updated.
The rest of the weekend was spent cutting blackberry bushes and scrubbing the old kitchen cupboards. My artist friend came down on Saturday with paint samples for the kitchen. She thinks the kitchen might be charming in green and yellow since the counter tops are bright orange. (French kitchen, she called it).
I'm preparing myself for the new occupants of the land - 400 chestnut trees.

  1. Have you had a chance to verify your math for the 400 trees?
