Work = Rejuvenation

This weekend Dan and I came down and spent the night for the first time at the Farm. Highlights from the weekend included:

Screaming profanity at runaway peacocks,
Setting up and playing badminton in the front yard,
Hoooly crap look how big the living room is now that it's all one level,
Touring again through the matted grass of the field (this time with Rosemary),
Korean bbq with Sharon, Rosemary, and the core-crew,
Foot pump air mattress that actually holds its air,
First Breakfast,
WTF...why is the popcorn ceiling coming down on me?
Dan driving home so he'll learn the roads

It was good, work and play well mixed, and I'm quite sore now.

First sleep over

The temperature was 97 degrees in Seattle when we headed out of town. I threw cotton sheets and, as an afterthought, a fleece coverlet. The evening was fantastic. The countryside quiets down bit by bit, with finally only a dog barking across the valley. We went to bed with all the windows open. Very soon, I was up shutting windows. And then I was up again trying to find something else to cover us with. I found an old bath towel. We huddled under the thin covers until morning having learned that trees don't retain the heat like cement buildings and streets do.
The contractor arrived early in the am to look over the barn/shed that needs to be torn down before August 5. A surprise from the insurance company.
And the electrical panel got updated.
The rest of the weekend was spent cutting blackberry bushes and scrubbing the old kitchen cupboards. My artist friend came down on Saturday with paint samples for the kitchen. She thinks the kitchen might be charming in green and yellow since the counter tops are bright orange. (French kitchen, she called it).
I'm preparing myself for the new occupants of the land - 400 chestnut trees.

It's 97 degrees in Seattle and we are leaving the city for two days at the farm. The electrical system of house is being upgraded early in the am. We are also going to choose paint for the kitchen instead of gutting it and replacing everything. The trees come first. We will replace appliances later.

This is going to be hard work!

Signed on the dotted line Monday 6.28.10 so now it's ours! Been out to the farm a couple of times now to start clearing brush and it's not going to be quick. But bit by bit it will be done. Even got better weather this week to do it!
